Island Cottage is heritage also it had been let to build a more contemporary extension to it
Built in 1830, Island Cottage is located inside the seaside village of Sidlesham Quay. Paul Cashin Architects has refurbished and extended it, cladding the old and new buildings from larch.
The renovation with Hampshire based Paul Cashin Architects is targeted toward combining building's traditional vernacular using some contemporary design and style factors. The new wood structure is connected to this old house and built inside its back garden, therefore is not observable from the road. Conventional construction techniques and materials were utilized to fortify relationships using the neighborhood architecture. The initial facades was left ordinary, however, the external walls in the back were were clad with natural larch planks.
Because the old building had been extended often days, the initial cottage had become a maze of chambers and corridors. The renovation finds that the design simplified. For the interiors, the architects used natural materials in the neighboring coastline, for example as flint and reclaimed walnut wood. Antique accessories and furniture collected from the proprietors at antique shops , flea markets, salvage yards and internet secondhand boutiques have been displayed throughout Island Cottage.
The bottom floor consists of a library, a shower, two chambers and also a long, open space with kitchen and dining area. The first floor hosts three separate bedrooms, a private bath and a living room. At the home dwelling space, a large part window has been set into the wall at desk height. It's contour has been chosen as it looks like an open source book.
Simply because Sidlesham Quay is in a flooding zone, all new construction had to be able to withstand rising water and flood damage. The designers created a bund of site and earth material and enabled bud to shoot hold over the top. Still another flood protection measure is property drains that relate into this Sidlesham Quay it self, to ease off surface.
